Tesco opens Express store in Smithfield

9th December 2022: Tesco Ireland has today opened the doors to a Tesco Express in Smithfield Dublin. The new store was officially opened this morning by Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe. At more than 3,200 square foot and conveniently beside the Smithfield Luas stop, the new store promises customers a modern retail experience and a wide selection of quality fresh local and Irish produce.

Speaking at the store opening, Minister Donohoe said: “I am delighted to be here today to formally open this Tesco Express store in Smithfield. Already a substantial employer in the area, this new store brings 20 new roles to Smithfield at a demanding time of year for families.”

Natasha Adams, Chief Executive, Tesco Ireland said: “We’re very excited to open the doors of our new Dublin City Centre store, here in Smithfield. We are committed to ensuring that Smithfield and all our stores play an important role in local communities, and we’re looking forward to providing support to local groups and organisations through our Community Fund for many years to come.”

Store manager Dan Murgu, who has been with Tesco for almost 12 years, said: “I am happy to be the manager of this new store right in the heart of this vibrant area. My colleagues and I are really looking forward to welcoming our customers and getting to know the community.

Tesco is a proud supporter of the communities it serves. To date its Community Fund has helped support thousands of organisations across the country. In its first campaign the Smithfield store will support the locality with donations to three local causes, First Light, Little Flower Penny Dinners and Crohns and Colitis Ireland.

Through the food surplus redistribution programme, FoodCloud partners and OLIO Food Waste Heroes will be on hand to ensure no good food goes to waste. The Smithfield team will also join Tesco’s continued efforts to support its charity partner, Children’s Health Foundation which supports all sick children in CHI at Crumlin, Connolly, Temple St, and Tallaght hospitals.

Through Aldi Price Match, customers can shop 100s of products price matched against Aldi, including great-value ingredients for meals for four. It’s just one of the many ways we offer great value shopping to our customers as we lead into the festive season.
