Tesco opens Charlemont Square Store
24 February 2023
24th February 2023: Tesco Ireland has today opened the doors to a new Tesco Express store at Charlemont Square in Dublin.
This historic part of Dublin 2 has been transformed into a modern neighbourhood which will feature a retail space, public square, homes and offices. At more than 4,600 square foot and conveniently located close to the Charlemont Luas stop, the new store promises customers a modern retail experience and a wide selection of quality fresh and Irish produce.
Geoff Byrne, Chief Operating Officer, Tesco Ireland said: “We’re very excited to open the doors of our latest Dublin City Centre store, here in Charlemont Square. We’re looking forward to getting to know our new neighbours in this community.”
In a new green initiative for Tesco, the retailer has used fully recyclable wall protection in the fitout of the new store. The material was made from 350kg of 100% recycled soft plastic which came from Tesco instore collection points for soft plastics from product packaging. The use of this recycled material offers an innovative recycling solution which demonstrates end to end recycling for the company.
The material was manufactured for Tesco by Irish manufacturing company Paltech whose technology offers the ability for soft plastics to be cleaned, sorted and moulded into construction materials. Tesco Ireland partnered with the company in 2021 to help them use recycled materials for use in store maintenance and in refits including buildings, carpark barriers, and signage.
Store manager Jonathan McCusker, who has been with Tesco for eight years, said: “This is a really exciting day for me and the team. We’ve been working really hard behind the scenes for the past few weeks to ensure that the store will offer the best possible experience for our customers.”
Tesco is a proud supporter of the communities it serves. To date its Community Fund has helped support thousands of organisations across the country. In its first campaign the Charlemont Square store will support the locality with donations to three local causes, Charlemont Community Resource Centre CLG, The Rise Foundation and DEBRA Ireland.
Through the food surplus redistribution programme, FoodCloud partners and OLIO Food Waste Heroes will be on hand to ensure no good food goes to waste. The Charlemont team will also join Tesco’s continued efforts to support its charity partner, Children’s Health Foundation which supports all sick children in CHI at Crumlin, Connolly, Temple St, and Tallaght hospitals.
Through Aldi Price Match, customers can shop 100s of products price matched against Aldi, including great-value ingredients for meals for four. It’s just one of the many ways we offer great value shopping to our customers. The retailer has also recently announced a new price lock on hundreds of products, which will run until Easter 2023. Locking these Low Everyday Prices is a key part of Tesco’s commitment to delivering great value on the weekly shop – going hand-in-hand with Aldi Price Match, great value own-brand staples through ‘Exclusively at Tesco’ brands and exclusive deals through Clubcard Prices.
